Rainbow Snippets 11/12

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

My snippet is from my NaNoWriMo project, working title “The Angel and the Magpie”

Blurb

Raphael and Toby are from very different walks of life and different parts of the country (UK).  They are both having very bad days, and their bad days are about to collide in a spectacular way.

Snippet:

“What’s taking them so long?” Raphael stopped pacing and listened once more, hoping to hear some indication that his mother might have finished talking to Toby.

“What’re you so worried about? She’s not gonna eat him you know.” Wilf chuckled from where he’d poured himself into Raphael’s favourite chair. He’d made himself completely at home by turning on the TV and helping himself to a box of chocolates that had probably been there since the summer.

“Comfy?” Raphael asked with a sneer, hoping the chocolates would give the man heartburn.

“Very, thank you. Nice chocs.” He smiled as he popped another in his mouth.

Raphael exchanged a glance with Jacob who rolled his eyes. Wilf was oblivious to any underlying animosity. He either did not understand sarcasm or chose to ignore it. Raphael glared at him again. The man had sort of semi-apologised for the night before but had yet to even introduce himself to Toby. He wouldn’t even look the young man in the eye. And well he might be embarrassed.
