Another weekend, another Rainbow Snippet.
Rainbow Snippets is a facebook group where writers, bloggers and readers can share up to six sentences of a WIP with an LGBTQ+ theme.
My WIP is progressing, mostly because of the motivation of Camp NaNoWriMo which ends today. I made my 50,000 word goal and have a good chunk of this story written now.
I’d like to share six more sentences about my genie character and his reluctant, bemused owner.
Jayce and Tobrin are on board a ship with supposed allies, however, something happens to make Jayce feel slightly less secure in the present company. Among the crew is a healer named Tem. Jayce has just found out he is also a spell-weaver (a powerful witch). His presence threatens to, unwittingly perhaps, uncover a disguise Jayce has been using to protect both him and Tobrin. Tobrin steps in to protect his owner.
Tobrin appeared between them displacing the air so violently it sent Jayce rocking back on his feet.
“What are you doing to my master?” Tobrin demanded fiercely, his face so close to Tem’s the healer was forced backwards.
With a cry of alarm, Tem stumbled as the backs of his legs hit his chair. He sat heavily, watching the angry genie warily. His hand was still outstretched but in a defensive way now, muttering softly and urgently under his breath.
Gods, if a spell-weaver and a genie got into a fight, who the hell would win? Jayce supposed that would depend on how powerful Tem was, but he really didn’t want to find out.
Tobrin’s hair flew as if it were alive, in bright blue swirls and zig zags, about his head. He loomed over Tem, an impossible seeming feat considering his lack of height until Jayce realised Tobrin’s feet were not touching the deck. He had risen at least a foot from the floor. Jayce could feel the static as Tobrin’s immense power washed over him, building to a hot and angry crescendo. It terrified him and thrilled him in equal measure.

Have a nice weekend everyone.
Like that. I can see him hovering in midair…

Great imagery! And that’s a fight I’m not sure I’d want to see either. Dangerous.

Wow! Loved this! Loved Tobrin coming to Jayce’s defense. (But hopefully Tobrin didn’t just destroy the disguise himself.) Please keep posting from this — I enjoy it too much for you to stop! (You WILL be publishing this, RIGHT?)

Believe me, I am busting a gut to get this finished and ready to submit. Don’t worry, Tobrin didn’t blow their cover 😀
