Rainbow Snippets 05/14

Time to share another Rainbow Snippet.

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

My snippet isn’t from my own scribblings this week.  Rather it’s a book rec. It’s the first few sentences of Te Quiero, a novella by Suki Fleet.  I had the honour to proof read this and Suki had her Happy Release Day yesterday.  If you’d like to see my release day review click here.  Otherwise, here are the first lines.  As always with Suki’s stories, they’re good’uns. Enjoy.

“Ally, what are you doing? How did you get in here?”

Fuck. I spun around in shock, desperately hoping the lewd images on the computer screen could not be seen through the now-open doorway into the physics lab, especially not by the young man standing there.

Hugging a bunch of folders against his chest, Levi Francis flicked his silvery hair out of his eyes and stared at me.

My heart squeezed just a little. Fuckity fuck fuck.

We lived in the same halls, and ever since the beginning of the year when we’d worked on the same physics project (before I dropped the damn subject), Levi would get this pinched, tense expression on his face if our gazes happened to meet. When Rob had seen Levi staring at me like that, he’d said it was obvious how much Levi didn’t like me.

Levi had that look now.

And here is the Blurb:

When Ally discovers dozens of naked photos of him have been posted online, he’s devastated and tries to contain the situation, hoping it doesn’t get worse. Only problem is his laptop has died, and Levi Francis—the guy Ally knows doesn’t like him—sees Ally acting suspiciously on the computers in the University’s Physics lab. Ally’s day can’t get much worse.

But after Levi accidentally drops a love letter written in Spanish, Ally returns it and finds his assumptions about Levi are turned upside down. Betrayed and hurt by his ex, Ally knows it’s the worst possible time to start trusting someone but there’s something about shy, glittery Levi that gets under his skin.

  1. Very good of you to share ‘Te Quiero’! (Heh, I’m studying Spanish, so I actually know that means ‘I want you’. :)) My compliments to Suki Fleet and yourself for offering up such an intriguing snippet!
