Over this week I’ve been posting about the characters in my new story Locked in the Moment, released on 14th February as part of the Love Unlocked Anthology from Beaten Track Publishing.
I introduced you to Sol, Lucien, The Bridge and finally Madame Queen.
Over the next three days I want to share some excerpts that highlight the two main characters but hopefully don’t give away any spoilers to the story.
Let’s begin with this excerpt where Sol meets Lucien properly for the first time. On previous occasions he’s tried to avoid the fairy but this time Lucien is a little more determined:
Humans tend to freak out when they see a seven-foot-tall, black hairy troll walking about in the open, so I keep to the shadows, but a bloke has to eat. No one ever sees me, except the fairy on guard, that is.
“Bonjour, Monsieur Troll.”
My eyes are assaulted by a mess of flaming auburn curls and pink, flushed cheeks. My fairy stalker.
He’s tiny, compared to me. He’s probably small by human standards as well, but I wouldn’t know. I just know that he’s small, annoying and perched on one of the bridge posts, grinning at me smugly.
His tiny legs are crossed at the ankles while he casually eats pink-coloured ice cream with a spoon. It’s the middle of the bloody night. Where did he get ice cream?
This one’s pretty determined. I’ve seen him around before. He doesn’t just sit and watch; he tries to bloody speak to me as well. All I ever do is grunt at him, but he never seems to give up and he always sounds so bloody cheerful. Bloody fairies.
“How are you this fine evening, Monsieur?” His very blue eyes regard me with interest.
Ha! The only interest he has in me is whether or not I’m up to no good. This time, I’m up here to do something about the noise. He doesn’t know that, though. Let him try and stop me.
“Is there anything I can help you with, Monsieur Troll?” He just won’t give up.
“Nuffing, fanks.” I grunt and then turn my back. He’ll get the message.
He doesn’t get the message.
Now let me show you one of the other six stories that are part of the Love Unlocked Anthology:
He Melted Us by Ofelia Gränd
All Delron wants is to live his life with Phillipe, but when their love lock is stolen from Pont des Art, their relationship is in jeopardy. Without the lock holding them together, Delron is convinced they’ll crash and burn. The only way he can save their relationship is to find the stolen lock, and that is just what he plans to do, no matter what.
Phillipe loves Delron, he really does, but it’s driving him insane that Delron can’t see that a padlock is simply a piece of metal. The lock has nothing to do with them, not really. Up until the night the lock was stolen, their life was great, but Del’s crazy behaviour has Phillipe wondering if he has ever really known his boyfriend.
Delron’s search leads him through art-filled Paris, but will a symbol of love ever be enough to soothe the mistrust his quest has planted in Phillipe? Phillipe always thought he’d spend the rest of his life with Del, but who can live with anyone willing to break the law just to find a padlock when they can buy a new one in just about any shop?
