The difference between “Quiet” and “Silence”

My son is to take his first Holy Communion on Sunday as part of our Church’s Easter celebrations.  As part of his preparation we have taken part, as have all the children of the church this year, in all of the Holy Week services.  I witnessed their act of witness today, as they all helped strip the church bare then all sat in complete silence in the representation of the Garden of Gethsemane that they all helped make.

Those of you that know nothing about the Christian Church may be thinking “What?”.  All of you, I’m sure,  have experience of children though, and I’m sure you’ll appreciate that getting them to be quiet at any time is a bit of a chore.  The fact that they would voluntarily sit in silence was quite moving to witness.

My husband, on the other hand, found it much more difficult.  We’re working on him though.
